Since the felon does not joke (pretty sure he doesn’t understand how to), if he mentioned a third term, he is seriously considering it. That is assuming he actually lives that long, which is looking increasingly unlikely.

I read his remarks to say that he was actually elected in 2020, so the 2024 election was his third time, for his third term.

Agreed that he's not going to make it to 2029, thank the lord.

I disagree. Since he used the words “avoid controversy“ he was talking about dissolving voters’ rights and claiming a third term surreptitiously.

He noted that Ukraine’s cancellation of elections during Russia’s invasion “could prove useful “ to us. He also said he’s in no hurry to resolve his Iran “excursion “.

Demonizing all opposition as a “communist threat” is not only McCarthy-era but also straight out of Hitler’s playbook.

The word “coup” comes to mind; behind the curtain, MAGA wizards of evil continue their work to dismantle the constitutional republic.

These are not “Republicans” by any stretch. Opponents need to strip away the pretense MAGA is a “conservative” movement and hammer home MAGA seeks legitimacy by claiming the “Republican” brand while betraying every Reagan-Bush principle other than excusing the wealthy from paying taxes.

The whole propagandistic speech was written by Stephen Miller; I’ll bet on it.

Trump is right about one thing... America IS the hottest country.

I'm willing to wager that one of the permitted uses of mail-in voting is Trump's convenience.

Thank you so much for dissecting the spew from his mouth since I can't bring myself to watch or listen to him. Your analysis is much appreciated.

If something doesn’t happen quickly I foresee a civil war. Those who get their gun rights back will be easily convinced that those who want to try to keep America safe are the enemy.

I do have concerns for you and Shanley speaking out, and greatly admire you for taking a stand.

Kelly, I always worry about those who speak out. Too many people like to send death threats and swat the person and other devious deeds. I will say that death threats are not new to this regime. Several years ago a city councilor told me that she had received death threats.

I hoped every single Democratic Senator and Congressperson and Governor would have been giving speeches on July 4th but I only see Wes Moore reported as having done so. And I don't meaning angry speeches about Trump, I mean inspiring speeches about historical and potential American successes.

Well done, as always, Mary. You set everything out so clearly. From here in the UK, I really appreciate your and Shanley's beautifully written pieces, and look forward to reading them each day, to try to understand what is happening in the US.

Sell the Fantasy…rebrand reality..tell them what you want to hear..what’s not acceptable ..to him ..to them. Don the Con became the Pon ..and half the nation went along.

It’s not half the nation , nor was it ever ,but it did give proof to sides, emboldened a lusting crowd, somewhere a line was drawn that said…too many people become greedy at some point of their gaining wealth. It nears the danger point of human nature’s worst faults. And is underscored by its desire to erase the guardrails everyone needs.

Everyone needs.

So I applaud you, those carrying the protest, the signs, the ideal we can be better, not more important. You polish what pride is about, that’s my flag , it deserves all the wonderful colors

I hope your Sunday smells the air clearing. No more smoke nor mirrors ( loved that line , Mary).

Peace be with us all sisters and brothers. Carry on loves…we have a clean up job ahead and ..

We Can Do This…

I’m always worried but the threat of communism will encourage the MAGA conservatives who believe everything Trump says. He’s got lots of money for ICE now.

Thank you, Mary, for spelling out there is not and has never been equal justice under the law. Too many skip over that inconvenient truth.

No mention of Melania. What does she do all day and night? Wait?

Michele's avatar

Carol, probably waiting for the same announcement that many of us are.

A regime that relies wholly on emergency powers engineering or imagining then declaring the emergencies that excuse its baldfaced power- and cash-grabs while villifying widows and orphans and migrants for being needy and dissenters for shining light. So supremacist! So corrupt!

Came a little late to this one but am struck by this…..

Trump’s recent characterization of his opponents as ‘communists’ is a ramping up of rhetoric. That, combined with the focus on the Second Amendment, is alarming.

It is the same rhetorical pattern he used when mustering his J6 mob into action….a gradual but ever-increasing call to violence. And if that pattern holds true he will intensify this polemic leading up to the midterms so that the MAGA quasi-militia will be primed and ready should violence be required in November.
