It's really the young people who need to see this. Because it's their future the billionaires are robbing. How can we keep doing the math in our heads: "Well, if Iceland goes, I'm not there. Well, if Africa burns, I'm not there. Well if Europe goes, I'll change my travel plans." This is a brilliant work, Mary, but how do we get there, and quickly? Do we wait for the next election? Do we wait for California to slide into the ocean, or for the ocean to no longer sustain life? I believe we have passed the tipping point and yet Musk is still in charge and his words matter more than yours, Yours are worthless when his are worth a trillion dollars. Where the f is the revolution? The obscenely wealthy must be brought down. Technology is not saving us, it is destroying us. I suppose when Google or Apple or Tesla update their products and people wait in line to purchase a thousand dollar phone, I can safely say the planet is inhabited by not humans who care about their own survival but idiots following a gilded icon. I will send this to all the teachers I know.
Excellent video and words. I grew up in the 1940's and '50's with two loving parents who worked service jobs, belonged to unions, bought a house, car, and put food on the table as well as sending me to college. Hope was flying high. We must over-estimate our ability to correct this vile pit we have so quickly descended into. There IS no profit in a dead planet nor is there any LIFE! The wealthy are squandering their ill-made fortunes on ever-increasing their dollars, but for what? The citizenry , as a whole, needs to wake up , band together, and save our country and our world. Thank you, Mary, for all you do to awaken us. Now, we must share so that others can do likewise.
You nailed it. Everyone should see this. For me the first step is getting rid of our two-party political system, dumping the career politicians. Love one another. There is hope when we all strive to make a life worth living instead of thinking of just making a living.
In a ghost town setting, as business slowly disappears, funding dries up , tax dollars gone lost over years to the coal industry’s demise..aging Medicaid recipients struggle with loss of that funding, cut programs…land prices soar along with insurance premiums, and downstream loses protections from known contaminants waiting to leak.
The poorest counties in the poorest states..this is the legacy extraction leaves as the growing richest or the governing tell us “all is well” smiling as they ask for just a small donation holding out their offering plate .
Excellent, Mary! We have spent every day since Jan. 20 racing in the wrong direction, accelerating the pace of the rape of our planet. We have given up our role as world leader in order to grab and grasp. We need to throw out Trump and his lot and install a regime that will use all the tools that science and industry can produce and take Sustainability seriously.
Beautiful - and terrifying. The wealthy extract what they want, what they can use and profit from, and then leave the mess behind. From tearing down the land to get the coal, polluting the oceans to suck out the oil, or poisoning the rivers to grow more crops... we need to stop them. They need to stop themselves, but they won't.
Thanks for sharing this, Mary. I have been writing for decades, trying to enlighten. but decades more, the inbred 1% have controlled our media, our institutions, capturing the simple minds of the many. I wrote this brief synopsis more than a decade ago:
The RNC and DNC, like the corporate state media, are force multipliers for global generational wealth and power.
The Mont Pelerin Society's (Austria 1940's) favorite "economist" F. v Hayek proposed path of "liberty" and "freedom", 4 "planks": [intended only for the 1% (Neoliberalism)] (Buchanan, Friedman, the "Chicago School", were later disciples and advocates)
1) Deregulate global financial markets - DONE
2) Deregulate global trade - DONE
3) Create the illusion and urgency of national bankruptcy with fake (fiat) debt (thereby neuter a nation's capability to enforce laws - eliminate the people's ability to defend against being overwhelmed and consumed by the 1%) - DONE
this manufactured illusion of bankruptcy is critical path for the 1%'s agenda. the "debt" is used to justify austerity measures for the people, and to tee up, the privatization plan, which is about transforming the public debt, into private debt, where the 1% can extract usury, ad infinitum.
then lastly, the kill shot:
4) Privatize Everything. recreate us ALL as permanent rent payers of even the most basic necessities of life (Air, water, food, shelter, health care). the public debt of a nation is being effectively eliminated, transmuted into private debt (bonds); the service of which (usury) is FOREVER- Almost COMPLETE
Thank you for "packaging" your sound thinking and eloquent wording this way. You've created something we can all use to spread the word to those who may not read the vital information but could grok this, watching and listening.
What an important and vital video. It softly demands to be watched, to be heeded. It should be shown everywhere, to everyone. Our planet and our survival depend on understanding these concepts. And on immediate action. Bravo, Mary G!
When the billionaires start to commodify water when do you think breathable air will become next?
Capitalism, Communism, Democracy and so on. Each of these governments have different systems set in place that define them. What is similar in all these different political systems is one aspect. Human greed always seems to find a way to use, corrupt, abuse or whatever unfair way to game the system to make themselves rich at the expense of everyone else.

This is where I live.
See it every day, slip away.

Pithy and poignant. Thanks!
