Thanks Shanley! You do me a world of good every time I partake of another uplifting message from you! It's great to know where I can go nowadays to find your stories of hope.
Thank you it’s the hope that as a species there are many who aren’t selfish enough to think that they are the only ones to inhabit this wonderful planet.
so beautiful and touching. yes, there are good souls out there still. It's an uphill battle no doubt but I am thankful and full of admiration for them. Thank you Mary for that sliver of hope that our unique natural world has a chance still, in spite of us!
The river otters swimming past my porch right now would like to point out that they are not ferrets but are, indeed, weasels.
And they would also like to mention that while there's no shortage of bad weasels mucking about nowadays, otters are proud to count themselves as GOOD weasels...
Thank you for reminding us that we as humans are totally responsible for what happens with everything and everyone on this planet. I feel that many people in government, especially this regime in power, is incapable of seeing the beauty and wonder of the natural world, as they are blinded by power and money. Let's keep on fighting for those who don't have voices.
A s always, right on. May I add one more animal to your list: The Manatee. It is limited in scope at this point, but there is a group still working for them in Florida, or so I hear. A large and gentle animal they nurse their young in the ocean. They are referred to as a Sea Cow. They amaze me. Thanks for reminding us about these creatures.

Hi, Shanley -
A great column with some elegant turns of phrase.

I loved this - a perfect antidote for the unhinged post this morning from you-know-who. Thank you, Shanley!
